Simone took this of Beth Gibbons. She had a good seat. |
Pedro The Lion is one of the two cover bands Stephy ever loved. Here is Bazan, Dongtini listener and force behind Pedro the Lion, playing “Once They Really Get To Know You They Will Run”:
Stephy was at this Death Cab For Cutie show (1/23/99) that Pedro the Lion opened for:
Stephy’s least favorite opening act ever
Official song of Dongtini, if they would just change “head” to “dong”:
“Man With Complete Mama’s Family Video Library Never Going On eBay Drunk Again.” —the Onion article |
Simone + internet + Tanqueray = 3 of these |
Stephy’s senior prom pic, 1993. NOT a Glamour Shot. |
No joke, that last soundwave, the one that looks like a dong, IS Simone saying “dong”!

Closing song: Daiquiri — “Opening Act”
Dear S&S, I though the honeycomb illustration depicted on the ChapStick 100% Naturals Botanical Medley Lip Balm packaging was a waffle. I considered the sunflower, half a coconut and a waffle and freaked out because I couldn't remember when Mother's day was and thought I had missed it. Thanks for blowing my mind! love, dawn
I liked an opening band once. At the Grand Silent System launch in St Kilda in…. 2004 (?), The Bird played. It was insane.
As for drunken online shopping, oh dear. Just last week I bought a DVD from a Japanese band I can't understand, and a book.
Mention "Death Cab For Cutie" and my mind is automatically on The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
Le Butcherettes opened for The Flaming Lips at Puyallup and they were amazing enough for us to drive to Bellingham to see them again. She is one crazy bitch. For some reason I am drawn to that…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bxwB_a37co
I've gone to gigs just to see openers multiple times. Benefits include not waiting around all night for them to go on, getting to sleep much earlier that night, and more mingle time with the band if they stick around the watch the rest of the show to. It only gets awkward when someone in your group drunkenly tells/shouts how much they hate the main band TO the people in the opening band while mingling during the main show. Because you get to go home and sleep it off, but they have a tour to finish. Oh, and it SUCKS that your ticket price reflects the main band you don't care about and not just the little band that you love.
Hey ladies, another great show! I had tears of laughter at Simone telling the olds about Dong! Oh and your first time! Nearly died until the real answer!! Love your work!!
Haha! I thought that "first time" portion might terrorise you!
I just went to type in my word verification below and it's "Rumblo"! New name for you, Ronz?
