I think “funny in your mind” is a perfect description! That’s how I felt when watching that. It’s a sense of “Oh that is very clever, I like what you did there, very funny” but it doesn’t actually make you laugh. Out loud or out silent. I often felt that way with episodes of Futurama or the Netflix season of Arrested Development.
Regarding the perpetually outraged people on Twitter, I wonder if this isn’t a side effect of online life? I’ve noticed that these days everything is either AWESOME/MIND BLOWING/BRILLIANT or it’s THE WORST THING EVER. You can’t just have no opinion, you have to have a huge opinion with mega feelings on top. Which is as stupid as it’s exhausting. Really when everything is extreme then nothing is.
