October 23, 2014 in Podcast by dongtini
On this episode: Mark Driscoll’s resignation and how Stephy feels about it, Simone’s meditative practices to increase gratitude, detention centers for undocumented immigrants are a disgusting capitalist abomination, and gay porn just means double the dongs. Also: Julai Whipple’s amazing piece on men holding doors for women, Emma Watson’s UN speech, Simone got in a fight about fonts, Stephy thinks Michael Stipe is a little ridiculous lately, Simone queries Stephy on worship, Stephy went to mass, why don’t we get excited about little things? (“It’s going into space!”), the new porno of The Room, and buttplugs: what do we know about them? “I bet Stephanie hates brunch!”

Closing song: Candi Staton — “Old Man’s Sweetheart”
Your discussion of Emma Watson and the feminist response to her leaves me with a burning question. Who do you think is most likely to be guilty of friendly fire, liberals or conservatives? Because (from my obviously limited experience) it seems that liberals are way more likely to eat each other than to support each other.
Let’s say for instance I posted the following on FB:
“I’m sick & tired of having to see a man’s penis every time I walk though the park to my bus stop!”
Conservatives may reply:
Conservative 1: Yeah I hate having all these mentally unstable homeless people, they should be arrested and locked up indefinitely!”
Conservative 2: Lock them up? What on my tax dollar? No they should be taken to work camps so they can at least give something back to the community, damn freeloaders!”
Meanwhile Liberals may reply with:
Liberal 1: You know when you talk about feeling “sick & tired” and talk about walking you should know that is very ableist you should check your privilege.
Liberal 2: I can’t even talk to you right now, that statement was so cissexist! A woman can have a penis too!!
See it’s the same basic motivation, to upstage the original post and be praised as the one who is purest and truest to their principles but somehow with liberals it always seems to end up with everyone tearing each other down.
Or am I wrong?
Speaking of, just woke up to this:
“Suey Park
“That catcalling video you all posting is deeply problematic: It perpetuates the myth of the cult of white white womanhood by literally placing this white woman in neighborhoods where men of color will be the ones who catcall (or, in some instances, say hello to) her. Doing so makes it appear as if men of color are the perpetrators of all that is bad on this planet, which can only be balanced with the exigent need to therefore save white women above all else. This stale, ahistorical association also makes invisible the disproportionate harassment that women of color face broadly from men (including white men)–and the very tangible violence that trans women of color face in particular. I’m not here for it. Please stop posting it like you are. ” – Aura Bogado”
On a lighter note, here’s Jim Jefferies telling the (EXTEREMELY NSFW) story of the time a sex toy got stuck up his ass:
