Dongtini — Episode 78
January 30, 2013 in Podcast by dongtini
On this episode: Simone’s trash celebrity boycott, Stephy’s breathless emails from captivity, and a bar with a giant whale dong. Also: Stephy’s issue with the word utilize and Simone’s redemption path for it, operating from conviction as opposed to mandate, ironic liking, Birdemic and The Room, accessing outrage, Jezebel, Teen Wolf, fecal transplantation aka high-tech Monroe transfer (come for the love, stay for the health), a Back To The Future Delorean-inspired stroller, the Karen Carpenter bio, Mark Driscoll’s iPad giveaway, and The Good Wife’s religious subtext. We don’t have the answers, listener. Only the questions.

“Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story” – Karen’s story told with Barbie dolls.
Closing song: Gene McDaniels — “Tower Of Strength”
I think Simone’s idea regarding the reality “stars” is a solid one! In fact I think I have a great name for it: Voldemorting. Voldemorting: The act of never speaking the name of someone truly terrible. Eg “Don’t bother sending me those links, I’m Voldemorting those losers!”
I have put “Voldemorting” on the document for 79! Brills!
Eugene = genius
I am eternally in your debt for introducing me to The Room! I’m also really interested in seeing The Canyons. While it could never hope to be as transcendentally terrible-wonderful as the work of the great Tommy Wiseau, it does have the same magical ingredient that made The Room so craptastic – a cast & director that is treating an obviously ridiculous movie as a deep, intelligent and serious work of art.
Yes, I think The Canyons is another “must see”. I wasn’t that interested until I saw those trailers. Aye carumba!
I absolutely cannot wait to see The Canyons. I’m following all reports from the set with dogged breathlessness. I need to see Liz & Dick whilst I wait. Where can I find these treasures? Ahh!
I’ll send you the links. Eugene sent them to me! Did you read the NYTimes article about the whole process? It’s a long, but riveting read.
I have a question for you ladies (though it regards a rap song so I’ll understand if Simone sits this one out) – Would it be racist if Will Smith did this song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlKL_EpnSp8
Bonus question, am I racist for wondering that?
I kinda loved that, and I think it could maybe not get any more racist no matter who did it?
I like it too! I think it would be super racist if a white guy did it but since the artist is black, I kind of want it as my ringtone!
