I thought a lot of good came out of the #YesAllWomen thing too, but I think me just being me, it still didn’t sit right with me that the conversation was born out of a misunderstanding of the circumstances. I’m glad it got a lot of people talking, but I’m just a stickler for facts so that will still bother me. Futher more, I feel like it distracted from the other issues of mental health and culture that were being raised. I guess I didn’t really make that clear as we sort of veered away without me making my point! That’s what happens when you don’t get around to recording until weeks after it’s been added!

While I do agree that the Isla Vista shooter had a lot of things going on I still feel the conversations about misogyny that it spawned were valid. It was long overdue needing an outlet and while he was driven by a lot more than misogyny he was more of a starting point for women to talk about their own experiences than the sole point of the discussion. I learned a lot from the #YesAllWomen on twitter and that probably wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

I get not wanting to oversimplify an complex issue to mine talking points but I’m still glad this issue got raised to the level that it did. I gained a whole lot of insight into how women experience the world thanks to it and I don’t think I was the only one.

That whole thing with Dr Landy is somehow even more messed up than the Smart Girls rap. Why is it that no one named Eugene ever makes the news for good reasons? Used to be my biggest problem with my name was that it was an old person’s name but I’m increasingly starting to worry it’s more of a serial killer’s name!

Oh and I also use “sorry” on the bus. I tend to use it interchangeably with “excuse me”.
